Fragile X Syndrome is the leading cause of genetically inherited mental impairment.

It is a disability without borders affecting individuals and their families of all cultures.

Symptoms range from mild learning disabilities to severe mental retardation and autism.

Challenging behaviors, social anxiety, and speech and language delays are common traits.

Since 1991, DNA testing has been available to check for Fragile X Syndrome. However, it is estimated that 50-75% remain undiagnosed due to a lack of doctor and parent information.

The Fragile X Center of San Diego provides information for families and professionals. Our activities include:

Providing family support

Improving awareness of Fragile X Syndrome

Increasing the identification for affected families

Promoting research into Fragile X Syndrome
